Cubbage
Pond Archeology Report
Public
Outreach for Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation
When
the Delaware Department of Transportation completed their
archaeological excavation of the Cubbage Mill site, they envisioned
a final report that would both educate and excite the public. Remline
was asked to develop a design concept for the report that would
include full color illustrations depicting Cubbage Mill in the late
1800s.
After
studying background data about the archeological site, Remline visited
the Cubbage Mill site in Milford and several other nearby mills
of the period. Since Cubbage is no longer standing, an archival
photo was used as the model for the mill rendering and on-site photography
was used to document the location where the mill stood.
Remline
began by providing early sketches of the mill to the client review
group to assure historical accuracy. Once the sketches were approved,
the final "hand drawn" illustration was scanned into the
computer and colorized. When completed, the Cubbage Mill Report
was filled with sights that accurately portray the period, from
the bustling horse-drawn wagons and carriage to the wheat gathered
in a nearby field. These images succeed in capturing the flavor
of the period and accurately convey the report's message.
